Adams Family

I spent my last week of work placement for my Level 3 Diploma doing makeup for a production of Adams Family put on by a local theatre. This production consisted of around 30 cast members that all needed to have their makeup done heavily every night. There was a lot of planning to do in preparation for this week to make sure that everything went smoothly backstage. The plan in which to ensure everyone's makeup was one on time was splitting the cast into 3 groups that each had time different time slots, this meant that we only needed 10 makeup artists per night which was a realistic to get instead of 30 makeup artists which we couldn't acquire, on top of the 10 required makeup artists each night we also had extras when we could get them so that people could be lightening arms and legs while other makeup artists could do the faces and chests which took more time and detail. I did different people each night during the first 2 time slots including the dead cowboy, jester and bride ancestors, my only consistent cast member which I did every night I was there was a gladiator ancestor which I really enjoyed doing, for that makeup look I started with a pale base on her arms legs chest and face that I set well with large amount of translucence setting powder so that it would stay on through the show, once I had done that I took a mixture of blue and black eyeshadow and used it to contour the checks and jawline along with the eye socket, doing both of these steps meant that my client had the required ancestors dead appearance, following that I added the extra details so that my gladiator lady looked different to everyone else, I added tribal styles markings in the centre of the face along with on the forehead, these represented how she would have looked before she went to fight and because the idea of her charter is that she died in fight, I added bloody finger prints all over her exposed skin to make it appear like there was a struggle before her death and lastly I added a mud coloured hand print to the front of her chest to further the appearance of her struggle before death. I am so happy to have been able to of finish my college course with this wonderful show, I hope I will be back with this group soon to do more performances in the upcoming months
